The National Service
Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969. Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community linkage. It works with a motto of ‘Not me but You.’

The programme aims to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in villages, how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. It also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster victims.

The NSS MEFGI unit has been doing wonderful activities for the last three years. On regular basis, we are doing various activities like helping poor & needy people, meeting with orphanage homes & old age homes to provide mental support, blood donation camps, providing grocery to people and institutes, providing education & school bags, notebooks in nearby schools and celebrating festivals with worker’s family etc.

We feel glad to say that till date more than 150 volunteers have joined and are successfully giving their services with the NSS (National Service Scheme) MEFGI existing team in which they have carried out such an enormous national level social movement. Till date, NSS MEFGI unit has donated more than 2500+ blood bottles, 4000+ clothes donation, 40+ tree plantation drives, 10+ school education programme, 5+ village visit and awareness programme. All volunteers feel proud to join helping hands and provide service to society. It is a blessed feeling to work with NSS and as a coordinator and Program Officer of NSS UNIT- MEFGI.

Village School Visit

NSS MEFGI UNIT is routinely organising a village school visit at Ratanpar, Bedi, Gauridad and Khorana. In the school visit we interacted with the students, played games with them and also taught them about several things. They were equally enjoying themselves and many of them were more active and intelligent than us. We also taught all of them about the latest technologies, how to operate computers and spread awareness.

NSS MEFGI UNIT was given the privilege to welcome our respected the then Chief Minister, Mr Vijay Rupani along with our educational minister Mr Bhupendrasinh Chudasama. We the members of NSS welcomed them with a salute and NSS claps. They were led by our NSS programme officers Mr Ramesh Sagapariya and Mr Vishal Sorathiya.

NSS MEFGI UNIT volunteers participated in this event to serve as a helping hand for the workers in the canteen of MARWADI CAMPUS. They were given a day off to relieve their body strain and soreness by playing various games with our volunteers, meanwhile the volunteers served for one whole day in the canteen to more than 2000 people including students and staff members and also enjoyed themselves by seeing smiles on their faces.

NSS MEFGI UNIT took an initiative to organise the NATIONAL YOUTH DAY which was celebrated on 12 JANUARY in accordance to the birthday of SWAMI VIVEKANANDA in INDIA by SURYA NAMASKAR which is a warm up routine based on a sequence of gracefully linked asanas. We performed it with more than 200 people and dignified guests, faculty members and students for more than 6 times and made them all feel relaxed and stress free, they equally enjoyed with us and unwound their body strain.

As a part of GTU and NSS, we organised a Cloth Donation Event in slum areas, old age homes and orphanages. The visit was organised for helping poor and needy people and for sharing life experiences with senior citizens.

As a part of GTU and NSS, the Blood Donation Camp Was organised in collaboration with Life Blood Bank of Rajkot and MEFGI, Rajkot. 301 Volunteers came forward to donate blood during the camp which included teaching & non-teaching faculty members as well as students.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC)

In order to encourage practising discipline in the patriotic youth, the National Cadet Corps acts as a voluntary organisation. The youth wing is open for all the school and college students to take active interests in the areas of the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. The organisation provides opportunities for active military training by recruiting cadets and providing them training through drilling. With Unity and Discipline as their motto, the National Cadet Corps was formed in 1950 in order to inculcate discipline in the cadets and its activities includes Republic Day Camp, Hiking and Trekking Camp, Advance Leadership Camp, and many more.
