Thoughts on Education By Dr. Y. P. Kosta (PROVOST)

educationEducation is the crux of one’s life. Those who are fortunate enough to receive a good education are closer to the deeper meaning of life.Prof. Yogeshwar Kosta is a space scientist and has been in the education sector for more than 14 years. He says that “ education is the best industry to work with.” Dr. Yogeshwar earned his doctorate degree in Telecommunication Engineering while working as a scientist employed with the SAC-ISRO –Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. He is currently the honorable Vice Chancellor of Marwadi University, the top University in Gujarat.

According to him “In education we make minds; in industries we produce things. This establishes the fact that minds come first and industry is next, and thus its importance.” He has published more than 150+ research papers, has successfully completed scientific projects of organizations such as; ISRO-SAC, DRDO, DST, etc. Being a man of great achievements, Dr.Yogeshwar “love(s) to work in the education-industry, because what I (we) make is minds that eventually produce the world, which is a reflection of the mind I (we) make, and this is a beautiful activity.

muAs Dr. Yogeshwar puts it, “Education is all about making of the minds’, essentially, by ways of initiating and thereby seeding the right kind-of-thoughts in the young participating minds that will eventually become the future workforce.” As a professor, a guru, he has worked dedicatedly towards the growth of his students at Marwadi University, the best university in Rajkot. About 20 students have registered for Ph.D. under his supervision and guidance. He believes it is important that ‘as educationist (teachers) pay our deepest attention with clarity to young minds at various stages of education design, delivery and evaluation. Since our students function as carriers – they enable pollination, extension, and growth of our thoughts, utilizing their creativity (student) to think-design of the next possible.

Presently working as the Vice Chancellor of Marwadi University, the top Engineering college in Gujarat, Dr. Yogeshwar focuses on the quality of education given to the students. His idea of leadership can be summed up in 4 P’s i.e. Knowledge Propagation (delivery), Production (researching), Preservation (documentation), and Protection (copyrights/patents). The need of education, not only in its basic form, but the manner of its delivery and documentation is important as well. In order to better explain this, Dr.Yogeshwar has designed and conceptualized a 3T Helix-like Structure: Imparting knowledge, it’s about technology skills associated with the degree knowledge. Finally, layer three is the propagation of knowledge. He works diligently to obtain the similar amount of dedication and hard work from the students of Marwadi University, the best college in Gujarat, as well.

mu educationThe education system of India is unique and well rounded. It dates back to the tradition of Gurukul, where the teacher was regarded as the guru, the guide, and mentor for life. Distinguishing the western education system from India’s, Dr. Yogeshwar observes ‘that the operating bandwidth of western education system is to prepare minds for the market, while that of the Indian is to prepare them for LIFE.’ This thought forms the basis of the education received by the students of Marwadi University, the top MBA college in Gujarat. Dr.Yogeshwar believes that it is important the student ‘loves the job he does, because ‘“ love” is the root-energy for growth and development.’ Over the years, Dr. Yogeshwar and his colleagues have worked to enhance the various engineering programs by introducing the art portion offered by the Marwadi University, the top engineering college in Gujarat.

smart brainApart from this, the strength of the Marwadi University lies in the diversity of students in the university. Despite so many cultural and regional differences the students are allowed to bond and understand each other’s way of life ‘through activities and events and promote cross-participation of students by way and means of training and awareness programs’.The Faculty at the Marwadi University constantly looks forward to enhancing student-industry interaction at Marwadi University. As Dr. Yogeshwar informs ‘the skilling-course-work is institutionalized as a part of the regular timetable, and special guest lectures and short term training programs are delivered by industry technocrats only.

Dr. Yogeshwar envisions a bright future for the University. He wishes to establish “a web-based structure for growth and….digitalization of delivery methods’ Lastly, no matter how good is the education you receive it is up to you to put to the best use. Dr. Yogeshwar advises the students to recognize their passion and follow it, by doing so they’d never get bored of their livelihood and make the most out of it.
