Overview

Structural Engineering is a special branch of Civil Engineering/Applied Mechanics which focuses on the use of the analysis and design of various structures that includes residential building, public building, bridges, roof trusses, and its components like walls, beams, columns and foundation. The scope is not limited to only the design of the structure; it also includes dynamic forces like wind analysis, earthquake and ensure the stability and safety of the structures. It is also concerned with developing the new materials for its use as an engineering material. The students pursuing this course study ideas and various research methods to prevent any damage to structure during the entire design period of the structure; it should stand without cracks and excessive deformation. Further, it also includes the repair and rehabilitation of the distressed structures. With the increase in infrastructure demand all over the world including India, professionals with Structural Engineering are in high demand in core companies, MNC consultancy firms, Government sectors, Railways and Bridge construction as well as in academics and R & D sectors.

Student Outcomes

After completing the PG Structural Engineering from Marwadi University, the students would be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental theories of analyzing given members of plain or continuum structures
  • Able to decide appropriate loading on structure and design the same.
  • Able to design the structure for dynamic forces like wind, earthquake or blast loading
  • Analyze and design complex structures like high-rise buildings, cable-stayed bridges, silos, bunkers and membrane structures with the infusion of technology.
  • An environmentally sensitive person.

The two-year long programme trains the students to become perfect in this discipline. The students will be given the opportunity to engage themselves in the research and consultancy division of the Marwadi University.
